Challenger 2 Detail set
Kit # EXV 72079 Review by Simon Barnes

This set is designed for the Dragon Challenger 2 kit and covers most of the parts needed to enhance the Dragon Kit. Included are the mesh screens that cover the front set of engine louvers, plus all of the handles needed on the engine deck. The set has the correct front and rear dust guards, fitted over the mud guards to suppress the amount of dust thrown up, these are only applicable to the OIF version, along with the Thermal recognition panels for the front of the turret. All the other parts can be used for any Challenger 2 version.

A nice touch to this set are the inclusion of the latches for the rear tool bins that are very blank without them, the MG mount also comes up for replacement and the set includes a new mounting bracket for the MG an Ammunition box holder as well as the Ammunition box and a belt of Ammo to go in it.The fastenings for the rear fuel drums are also included, the handles of which have to have plastic rod added to them to make them complete. this of course means having to have the moulded on straps removed or the fitting of new fuel drums, which would probably be the best course of action.

The other bits included are for the rear mounted cable reel and new tops for what I presume are the wiper motors on the commanders cupola, these are too large on the kit and the PE replacement tops are also too large. The other pieces are new mirrors and a mesh, meant to represent the textured covering between the gun mantlet and the hull.

Although a nice set and worth getting as it will improve the kit, I feel that other parts could have been included, the fuel filler caps on the kit could do with replacing on the kit, or the thermal exhaust shrouds, the guards for the tail lights, and how cool would it have been to have new rear bins of the correct shape ??. Extratech might yet release another set for the KFOR version, with new side skirts, the parts already mentioned plus a new loaders periscope cover, to at least cover up the kit piece.
