Bison Decals
When I recently accessed the website of AFV-Decals, I was dismayed to see a message stating that the company is ceasing business. I have all of their decal sets, and liked them very much. But further down the page there was another statement telling us that in fact, the company is switching gears, and changing their production methods as well as their name. As you know, the new company is now called Bison Decals, and I am happy to say that this new effort has retained all the postive aspects of the old AFV-Decals line (such as indepth research, meticulous detail, and superb instructions), as well as added several more advantages, specifically, the printing of the decals is now done by the world-renowned decal printer, Microscale. (By the way, for those of you who are interested in what a Wolverine (English spelling) really is, look here.)
The first four sets of the new line of decals (though numbered 4 though 7) all follow the theme of British armor in NW Europe, 1944-45.
Here are scans of the four decal sheets. Note that the scans have been darkened to better show the white markings; the actual decals are much brighter with more vibrant colors than what appears here:
No. 72004 Cromwell, Centaur & Comet Tanks
No. 72005 Wolferine Tank Destroyers & SP Guns
N0. 72006 Firefly Vc & British M4 Variants
No. 72007 Recce - British Light Tanks & Armored Cars
All four of these sheets are printed very well, with registration for the most part being fairly good. The colors are very clear and bright, and the white appears to be very opaque, though I will have to try one out to be sure. Each set comes with the main sheet of markings, plus a small additional slip with some miscellaneous marks which were apparently left off the main sheets.
Each vehicle is provided with a complete set of markings: stars, serials, arm of service marks, personal markings, etc. And as a final bonus, these superb sets also include full painting and decal placement guides for each vehicle. Reference information is also given, so modelers can follow-up with their own research. These are very highly recommended decal sets.
Thank you very much to Bison Decals for providing these review samples. Please visit the Bison website to see a complete listing of all the specific vehicles depicted in each set.
